mossman gorge visitor centre

Construction of a new eco-tourism visitor and training centre in Far North Queensland.

Ridgemill was engaged to project manage construction of the Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia’s Mossman Gorge Centre, an award-winning indigenous eco-tourism development in Far North Queensland.

The centre is at the heart of one of Australia’s most iconic Aboriginal experiences; the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walks which offer small groups exclusive access to Kuku Yalanji land. The experience is completed by the café, art gallery and gift shop on site, all of which support a successful Indigenous training program. Indigenous employees represent approximately 90 per cent of the total workforce.

In addition to the visitor centre, Ridgemill delivered car parking, a transit centre which supports the centre’s eco shuttles, bicycle facilities, and residential accommodation to support Indigenous student participation in accessing the industry standard hospitality and tourism training facility.

Ridgemill’s input included management of the construction contract, and undertaking an assessment of contractor resources, along with implementing an injection of resources to expedite completion of the project. Careful consideration was given to environmental management, given the highly significant, sensitive ecological project environment.
