COMMUNITY

THE CORSO

Construction of a new 5-Star, Green Star library and community hub in North Lakes.

The Corso, North Lakes Project provides the community of North Lakes with a modern library facility. The building also includes a community centre and 4,000m2 of commercial offices above. In addition to this, federal funding was provided for the development of a Youth Centre on the neighbouring lot which was being utilised as the community centre.

The front of house library functions in the building include collection, study and quiet reading, youth space, public access technology and meeting rooms. The back of house includes facilities for the branch staff, management staff, collections management and distribution staff.

The Corso building was designed as a 5 Star Green Star project and is the first Queensland building to achieve 5-star Green Star Public Building design rating. To achieve a 5 Star rating extensive ESD initiatives have been incorporated into the design including more than 550 roof-top solar panels that will generate power for much of the building’s daily needs.

Cutting-edge technology regulates lighting, air conditioning and promote natural ventilation throughout the building, and up to 200,000 litres of rainwater will be captured for the Corso’s bathrooms, gardens and grassed areas.

The project was successfully awarded the largest amount of federal funding under the RDAF boost for regional development in Queensland.
