TOOWOOMBA LIBRARY

New library and community plaza for Toowoomba City.

The new City Library project included a landscaped civic plaza suitable for major outdoor events, and physically connects the new library to the existing Town Hall and the Regional Art Gallery. Designed to provide a contemporary response to the historic aesthetic of the Toowoomba City Centre, the new 6,800m2 building includes environmentally sustainable design initiatives. The development offers a children’s area, café, community centre with meeting rooms for training and seminars, the Toowoomba History Library, cycle centre and basement car parking. Featuring state-of-the-art RFID (radio frequency identification system) circulation and security technology, modern resource management facilities and community features such as free indoor and outdoor wi-fi and device charging stations within the spacious, light filled library and community spaces, the new Toowoomba City Library sets the benchmark for contemporary regional library facilities.

The project was awarded the 2016 Downs & Western Master Builders “Project of the Year” Award.
